Equalities

7th Feb 2025

Equalities work is a central part of what we do in the University of Manchester branch of the UCU. We support members over a range of equalities and discrimination issues, including those related to race, ethnicity, gender, class, nationality, sexuality, disability and religion. We also feed into committees and policy consultations at School, Faculty and University levels.

The Equalities Committee (including the women’s rep, LGBTQ+ rep, black member’s rep, disabled members’ rep and international members’ rep) meets once a month. Issues that members of the Equalities Committee have recently been working on include visa changes for international staff members, menopause awareness at work, carers’ rights, and solidarity with Palestinian academics. If you are interested in these or any other equalities issues, please contact us.

We do not currently have a disabilities rep. If you are interested in contributing to the branch in this area, with appropriate buy-out from your regular duties, please email us at ucu@manchester.ac.uk to find out more about what the role entails.
